On Thursday, September 13th at 5:40pm, little Jackson Goodspeed put together his first set of steps (he'd taken one step before) to walk from our couch to the television, a distance of about 5 feet.
Unfortunately, neither his Mommy or Daddy was there for the occasion, (Daddy literally walked in the door 30 seconds after it happened, Mommy was working late) but Grandma was.
Jackson's been obsessed with touching the big-screen tv lately, something his Daddy sternly tells him not to do but he goes on doing anyway. Just before the momentous event, Grandma was playing the same game with him that Daddy always does; every time he crawled over to the tv to touch it she would go over and pick him up and bring him back over to the couch.
Well one time, he decided not to crawl at all!
According to my Mom, JT walked slowly but surely the entire span. I walked in moments later to a gleeful Grandma and electricity in the air. Jackson had no idea why we were so excited, and would not repeat the feat, at least not at the same distance.
He would however string together a few steps a number of times, which is what I taped. He seemed more interested in walking when he wasn't thinking about it. As soon as he would notice that he was not holding on to anything he would promptly sit down.
Glorious! Stupendous!
It was a little while coming, but it's all forward from here! Other parents have told us to beware, that now the real trouble begins. Nonetheless, it's doubtful that we'll rue the day.
Mommy was a little upset that she missed it, but she was also extremely proud.
Congrats JT!
